Understanding the difference between your intention and perception

This workshop looks at and assesses the importance of what you say, what you do, how you come across and how you interact to try and help, coach or manage others can have a positive or negative. Some athletes and players need encouragement and support, whereas others like to take ownership and be very independent. Even though you may have the best intentions, the perception can sometimes indicate a level of control or leadership that may / may not be welcome.

This workshop looks specifically at the key attributes which influence a mentally tough performer. Being physically strong and having a high pain threshold is an advantage, but when you add mental strength into the equation, the athlete or player takes performance to the next level. Areas covered in this workshop will include; Self-belief, determination to succeed, desire / passion to win, staying fully focused in the face of competition, dealing with physical and emotional pain, maintaining discipline, managing distractions, dealing with unexpected scenarios or uncontrollable events & performance setbacks, controlling anxiety and nerves, not being phased by your competitors, thriving on pressure, managing your personal / family life in and around training or competition.

Effective communication skills for sports coaches

This workshop looks specifically at how coaches can tailor their communication (verbal, written and face to face), make small discreet changes which can then empower, encourage and install a positive response and reaction from their athletes and players. It will focus on positive and negative phrases, as well as being aware of what you say, how you say it and why it is so important to communicate being conscious of the end goal and outcome in mind.

Building up confidence and keeping your PMA (Positive Mental Attitude)

This workshop looks at how you can change your mindset so that you have much better self-esteem, a higher belief in your ability and how you can carry yourself with more confidence. Quite often when you are faced with a problem, it is not the problem that is the challenge, it is your attitude to the problem that influences whether you approach the task in a positive or negative manner. You will be amazed at what you can achieve if you focus and hold your PMA.

This training workshop focuses on the importance of continuing professional development (CPD) and how to put theory into practice. Knowledge is everything, Learning the skills you need is an advantage, having the life experience gives you the confidence – but if you cannot articulate this by putting theory into practice, you could end up falling at the last hurdle. Therefore, it is important to check in with yourself every now and again. Make sure you have the right skills, at the right level. Keep developing and learning new techniques, try new innovations, but the key element is to keep training, pushing your boundaries and never stop learning new skills.

In all aspects of successful coaching and training, preparation is key. Without planning and preparation, you can very quickly find yourself training with no specific goals, targets or aspirations. Preparation can be in the form or training schedules, planning for competition, micro-cycles, meso-cycles and macro-cycles, all to help your athletes/players prepare leading up to competition. Getting the advice from established coaches and mentors or ex-athletes and player, can be incredibly useful – however knowing where to find these gurus or understanding where to look to find the right information demonstrating the right technique, can be very challenging.
