IAAF Youth Athletic Conference proves to be very SMART in Barcelona

IAAF-Conference---Olympic-StadiumAs one of the endurance coaches on the National Coach Development Programme (NCDP) with England Athletics, Nadeem Shaikh, Managing Director of SMART Way Forward, attended the IAAF Youth Athletics Conference, Barcelona Olympic Stadium on 15-17 July 2012.

The opening keynote address was delivered by former World Record pole vaulter Sergey Bubka who, in an illustrious athletics career, won six World Championships titles, broke the World Record 35 times (17 outdoor, 18 indoor) and won a Gold medal at the Seoul Olympics in 1984.

Training and research presentations were delivered by Dr Woolfgang Killing of Germany, Professor David Behm of Newfoundland University and Dr Alan Barker from the University of Exeter, along with Miguel Angel Torralba, Ruth Jimenez, Javier Brazo-sayavero, Antonio Montoya and Javier Pena.

“The IAAF Conference was very useful and informative and there are certainly some aspects of training and development which I will now encourage and apply in the UK,” said Nadeem.

“In addition, the conference provided an excellent opportunity to network with established coaches, as well as learn, review and assess training methodology and research from academic experts. I would like to thank England Athletics for kindly inviting me to this conference.”
